Children and Age Policy

1. Minimum age

SpendPilot is designed for adults who manage a household grocery budget. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. The app is listed in the Apple App Store and Google Play with an age rating that reflects this.

2. How we check

When you create an account we ask you to confirm that you are 18 or over. [DESCRIBE ANY ADDITIONAL CHECK, FOR EXAMPLE DATE OF BIRTH ENTRY, IF USED] We do not collect proof of identity. If we later have reason to believe that an account holder is under 18, we will suspend the account, ask for confirmation of age, and close the account if we do not receive it.

3. If you are under 18

Please do not create an account, join the waitlist or send us personal data. If you have done so, ask a parent or guardian to email [email protected] and we will delete it.

4. If you are a parent or guardian

If you believe someone under 18 has created a SpendPilot account, email [email protected] with the email address used for the account. We will investigate and delete the account and its data if the person is under 18. We may ask you for enough information to confirm that you are the parent or guardian.

5. Information about children in your household

SpendPilot asks for your household size so that plans are the right size. You may also be able to indicate that children live in your home so that plans suit them. [CONFIRM WHETHER THIS OPTION EXISTS]

• We do not ask for children's names, dates of birth or any other details.
• Household size is used only to scale meal plans and shopping lists.
• If you record a dietary requirement for a child in your household, for example an allergy, it is processed with your explicit consent under the Dietary and Health Data Notice and is subject to the same protections and the same always check the label warning.

6. Why 18

Because SpendPilot deals with household finances and with health information about diet, we have chosen not to offer it to children. This keeps the Service outside the scope of the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code and the children's higher protection requirements in UK data protection law, and means we do not need to apply age-based restrictions inside the app. If we ever decide to offer SpendPilot to under-18s, we will complete a children's data protection impact assessment, redesign the relevant parts of the Service, and update this policy first.
